How to stay relevant in a Social Media World where everything changes so fast


Forget the term “Always be selling” and adapt to a new phrase “Always be learning”. From the moment we are born we start learning about the world around us. And as babies and children, we learn rapidly. Everything we see and do is new, and everything we see and do teaches us something new about our environment. We continue to learn new things every day as we progress throughout elementary school, high school, and then further education. But somewhere along the line, we lose that drive to learn new things. But in a world where everything changes so quickly, it’s important that we constantly strive to develop our knowledge. And in the world of social media, everything changes so fast. Here are 5 tips to help you stay relevant in the social media world:


1. Follow the influencers


Social media influencers are people who have a large number of followers and who have the power to influence purchasing decisions. You can use influencers to market your products or services, but you can also use them to keep up with the times. Top influencers are constantly evolving and are always on top of relevant trends. By following popular influencers, you can see what trends are currently in style and follow suit with your social media campaign. Want to become an influencer? 2. Learn about Algorithms


An algorithm is defined as “a finite sequence of well-defined, computer-implementable instructions, typically to solve a class of problems or to perform a computation”. They are the instructions by which all types of social media are based upon. Algorithms are very complex and it would take us years of studying to completely understand them. For this reason, it's not necessary to completely understand everything there is to know about algorithms. With that being said, you should know the basics.


Take Instagram for example. Instagram runs on a series of algorithms in which users will only see your content if they continue to interact with your content. This means that if there is no interaction on your page, nobody will be seeing your content. In return, engagement and community management should be of top priority when creating an Instagram campaign.


As you can see, the more and more you know about algorithms, the better you will be able to direct your campaign towards fulfilling them. Again, you don't need to completely understand algorithms for everything that they are, but learning about the basics will help you in building a long-term audience.


3. Understand your audience


Speaking of the audience - anytime you're working on social media it's important that you know who your audience is. As we just learned above, engagement and Community Management are important aspects in fulfilling algorithms. But you can't engage or successfully manage your community if you don't know who your community is. For this reason, understanding and learning about your audience is always important.


When it comes to your audience, you should know everything there is to know. How old are they? How do they identify? What do they like to do in their spare time? Do they like to read or do they prefer to watch videos? Do they have children? Where do they live? What platforms do they spend time on? The more questions you can answer about your audience, the better you will be able to appeal to them.


4. Make Professional Development a Priority


Professional development is ongoing learning. You can gain professional development by enrolling in courses, classes, or even mentorship programs. Professional development is something that we should all strive towards because it ensures that we are consistently learning. And in the world of social media, taking professional development classes and courses can help you to keep up with the times. Because social media is always changing, enrolling yourself in professional development courses or classes every few months can be beneficial and can help you learn about new strategies and techniques for staying relevant.


5. Listen to your audience


When it comes to social media, the best way to stay relevant is to listen to the needs of your audience. Who knows better what they need than themselves? If you are lucky enough to have a large audience and provide your audience with plenty of engagement, then it's likely that they will provide you with comments, questions, and concerns. Use this knowledge to advance your profiles and keep them up-to-date with what your audience is looking for.
